A notorious Coyote and pawnshop owner squares off with a brilliant ex-Border agent, only to find him an ally when Drug Lords, White Supremacists and Corrupt Law Enforcement converge on his native land in the wake of the Patriot Act.
Half-Mexican, half-Apache, Hector Alvarez is a fifth-generation Arizonian who owns Dos Cabezas Antiques and Pawn, in Ruby, Arizona. He is extremely resourceful and has a soft spot for animals, especially dogs. His half-sister, Yellow Deer, owns and manages Crooked Sky Ranch, a home and school for orphaned Indian girls. She is the first of her family to attend university and does research for Johns Hopkins. She and Hector are very close and fiercely protective of those they care about and their way of life.
Benjamin Lightfoot Ross is a white, tech-savvy, ex-CBP agent who was framed by his colleagues and discharged from duty. He has parked his fifth-wheel trailer in the foothills near Ruby, seeking exoneration. He has an agreement with the governor that in exchange for collaring Hector, the most successful Coyote in history, he will be pardoned and recommended for appointment as US Marshall.
Amber Soames, aka “Princess”, is married to Enoch Soames, President of the Aryan Brotherhood, currently serving a life sentence in San Quentin State Prison. Princess and their son Jefferson Davis (JD) moved to Arizona and bought Minutemen Shooting Range and Gun Club, which sits directly across the parking lot from Hector’s pawnshop. Hale Carson is the Sheriff of Santa Cruz County, a friend and ex-colleague of Benjamin Ross. His relationship with Hector is one of guarded respect and a tendency to look the other way.
In the Pilot Episode, Hector and five Native Indians are detained in a CBP/DEA sting operation led by Brady Tallent, a corrupt Border Agent. Benjamin Ross leaves a dog with an implanted listening device in his truck in front of Hector’s shop. Princess and JD Soames work on their own strategy to neutralize Hector while Sheriff Carson tries to keep the fragile peace in Santa Cruz County. The end shows Hector looking through binoculars at Brady Tallent’s uniformed corpse in a cotton field. Welcome to Ruby, the new hot-bed of corruption and violence in the Southwest.
