Logline

A rock band struggles for success, whilst being duped by a rogue satanic producer, amidst the Miners’ Strike of 1984.

Synopsis

In a small coastal mining town, a rock band formed out of a group of friends struggles to be recognised. A chance meeting with a bizarre character declaring himself a record producer gives them an opportunity of a lifetime – much to the disappointment of their families, who have other ideas for their future. But… is this record producer all he claims to be?

Clay, the guitarist of the band Black Diamond, is pressured by his father William to get an apprenticeship in the Kent mines, but he has no interest. His passion is his music. This causes angst and disapproval from his father and his work colleagues, who shrug off his wild dreams of rock stardom. The band’s problems worsen when the Miners’ Strike begins, causing worry and unrest between the mining families as they are pressured with rising debt trying to make ends meet.

Tom, one of the other band members’ father, eventually defies the picket line at the colliery and decides to go back to work. This results in fights and deeper rifts between the families of the band members, as well as the whole community. Tom is branded a scab and an outcast from his friends and colleagues. Tom’s son, known as Vim, the drummer in Black Diamond, has a girlfriend, Tracy, who works at the colliery in the administration department. Tracy witnesses something that exposes the industrialist leaders’ double standards and the real motive behind the Miners’ Strike. This story also highlights the controversial clashes that happened between the striking miners and the police.
