In the opening act new detective Maguire is caught in the
middle of a drugs shootout and when his partner is wounded he finds
himself assigned a new female partner, ostensibly as part of an Eastern
European exchange program. The new partner (JanKay, early 20’s) is
unusual – walks, dresses and speaks strangely and Maguire is reluctant,
but many people – the Mayor, the FBI and his chief insist on the
pairing; he is to follow his usual case-load and get to know his new
partner.
As the duo investigate the local drugs cartel they become involved in a
hunt for a vicious serial killer who inflicts bizarre, inhuman injuries
on his victims, while at the same time JanKay begins to exhibit unusual
abilities – blurring speed at times and exceptional strength at others.
She also appears to enjoy sampling various aspects of human behaviour –
drugs, sex, alcohol; and she constantly changes her appearance. By this
time Maguire has concluded that the killer they are hunting is not
human, a revelation which leads to the further realisation that neither
is JanKay. It is revealed that she has followed a rogue being from her
own planet and that the authorities on Earth are aware of her presence,
and hoping to benefit from it. The pilot concludes with the rogue
creature confronting Maguire and his partner and the realization that
they are now the hunted.
